Actor David Harris, who is famously known for his role as Cochise in the 1979 cult classic The Warriors, has tragically passed away at the age of 75 years old after a battle with cancer.

David’s only daughter Davina Harris confirmed to the New York Times this week that the talented star passed away on October 25, 2024 inside their family home in New York City. From the 80s all the way to the 2000s, Harris showcased his incredible talents on the big screen. His most famous role was the young gang member Cochise in The Warriors which was an action thriller that told the tale of a turf battle between New York City street gangs that extended from Coney Island to the Bronx.

Outside of The Warriors, David starred in a number of other films and television series where he often took on the role of police officers and military personnel. Some of this movie roles included Bubaker, Quicksilver, A Soldiers Story, Fatal Beauty, and James White, among many others. He also appeared in television shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, ER, NYPD Blue, Mike Hammer: Private Eye, and more.

David was born in New York City where attended the High School of Performing Arts. David’s first-ever role came was in the 1976 television film Judge Horton and the Scottsboro Boys, during which he co-starred as Haywood Patterson.

Since the devastating news of David’s death broke, fans everywhere have been sharing heartfelt tributes in memory of the actor. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who has written a concept album based on The Warriors, took to Instagram sharing a sweet message honoring David.

In her post, she wrote: “Shocked and saddened at the passing of David Harris, aka the original Cochise in The Warriors. We were celebrating and giving him his flowers for his unforgettable performance just over a week ago. Grateful for that moment with him. Our hearts are with his daughter and galaxy of family and friends.”

Under the post, many other fans also shared loving words in memory of David and sent their well wishes to Lin. One fan commented: “Happy he felt the love and received flowers from you all that night. A blessing. Onwards for him. May his journey be filled with light and love.”

And another replied: “That’s hard to grasp. How wonderful that you got to share that moment though. All my love to his family and friends.” While a third commented: “Sorry to hear about the loss of David Harris AKA Conchise. So glad he was able to celebrate your brilliant Warriors conce[p]t album, and to see his legacy live on.”
