Meghan Markle has been quiet this election cycle, but in the past, she had previously gushed about Vice President and current Presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Election Day has arrived on Tuesday, November 5, and during the campaign season, many celebs have thrown their support to Democratic Party nominee, from Beyoncé to Bad Bunny. While the Suits actress has been publicly silent this year about the 2024 election and Harris, she expressed her high regard for the former prosecutor in the past.
In August 2020, Meghan teamed up with journalist and activist Gloria Steinem for a conversation about the importance of voting. Meghan also condemned voter suppression that year. The two conversed about Harris, who was the Democratic running mate candidate at the time.

Gloria had said, “The heart of the Democratic party has been Black women, actually, and now there is a potential Vice President who is Black and thats exciting.” To which Meghan agreed, saying: “I’m so excited to see that kind of representation. You know, for me, being biracial, growing up, whether it was a doll or a person in office, you need to see someone who looks like you in some capacity.”
“As many of us believe, you can only be what you can see,” Meghan continued. “And in the absence of that, how can you aspire to something greater than what you see in your own world? I think maybe now we’re starting to break through in a different way.”
As Meghan had positive things to say about Harris, the feeling was reciprocated. Harris posted about Meghan in October 2019 where she reposted a video of Meghan reflecting in South Africa about the negative press and online bullying she received during her pregnancy. Harris wrote: “This is incredibly important. We must remember that its a sign of strength to show emotion. Meghan, we are with you.”
Then in June 2020, Harris also posted a clip from Meghan’s graduation address at her former high school (Immaculate Heart High School). The Vice President captioned the tweet: “‘The only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.’ Thank you, Meghan, for this powerful statement.”
Fast-forward to 2024, both Meghan and Prince Harry have not spoken the way they did in 2020. But the team of the couple’s Archewell Foundation wrote personalized letters to motivate unregistered voters to vote. On National Voter Registration Day in September, they posted a statement on their website that encouraged people to vote
“Voting is not just a right; its a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities. At The Archewell Foundation, we recognize that civic engagement, no matter ones political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world. By participating in initiatives like this, we aim to amplify the message that every voice matters,” they said.
