FORMER Manchester United star Diego Forlan is gearing up to make his professional tennis debut in November 2024.
Throughout the Uruguayan’s transition from football to tennis, he has been supported by his wife. Here’s what we know about Paz Cardoso.
Who is Diego Forlan’s wife Paz Cardoso?
Diego Forlan is Uruguay’s most-capped player of all time.
Off the pitch, he is married to Paz Cardoso.
A fellow sports star for her country, Paz has played on Uruguay‘s field hockey team.
With Diego now on the tennis court, Paz has remained a constant source of support.
During his training, she posted on Instagram: “Strong, solid and consistent on the court. Kind and super patient out of the same.
“You are playing your best tennis, we are enjoying a great show.”
Diego has been in a relationship with Paz since 2012, a year before he established himself in the national football team.
When she isn’t cheering on her beau, she’s seen sporting various brands on her Instagram profile.
Diego had a turbulent relationship with his ex, Argentinian model Zaira Nara, before meeting Paz.
So when the pair announced their wedding in early 2013, expectations were high.
The civil wedding was held in July, while the couple left the main event for the end of the year.
The religious ceremony took place on December 11, 2013, followed by the wedding reception.
The wedding took place in San José de la Montaña, in Carrasco, where her family hails from.
Among the guests were La Brujita Verón, Diego Milito, Andrés D’Alessandro, and Loco Abreu, among other players.
Sebastián Bauza, then president of the Uruguayan Football Association, also attended.
In 2019, Diego announced his retirement from football after a 22-year career in which he played in nine different countries.
Writing about their tenth anniversary in December 2023, Paz said: “10 years later: 4 sweethearts, different homes, many countries, incredible experiences, endless learning and more love and admiration than that first day.
“Thank you Diego Forlán for making me the happiest woman in the world 10 years ago. Here’s to many more.”
The former football players responded on Instagram, saying: “Thank you Paz Cardoso for these 10 years and this family.”
He also shared postcards of the wedding, as well as parts of their family history.
Who are Diego Forlan and Paz Cardoso’s children?
Their four children, three boys and a girl aged between eight and three, also keep him occupied.
He became a father for the first time at age 36 when Paz gave birth to their son Martín on February 18, 2016.
Daughter, Luz, was born a year later on May 15, 2017.
César came on February 11, 2019, while their youngest was born on March 20, 2021.
The 45-year-old said: “It’s like any normal family, the same fights, shouting. Imagine, a boy (Martín), hits Luz, he cries, then Luz is the other way around.
“Then it’s the same with César, the youngest is tremendous, he’s the worst of all, he’s the most rebellious of all, he’s the third, imagine now with the fourth.”
The kids play regular football and tennis too, so don’t be surprised if there’s a fourth generation of Forlan sporting excellence in a few years.
