Sean “Diddy” Combs has been relocated to a section of the New York City jail where convicted cryptocurrency fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried is currently held, according to sources confirmed by NBC News.
This area of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn is designated for detainees needing special protection, as reported by three sources familiar with the situation on Tuesday.
Combs, 54, was arrested last week and is now being held at this federal jail, which has gained notoriety for violence and inadequate care.
Bankman-Fried, 32, is also located in this special section. The chief federal prosecutor in Manhattan has described him as orchestrating one of the largest financial frauds in history, with losses exceeding $8 billion.
The unit is characterized as a barracks-style area housing 18 to 20 inmates who require enhanced security, including high-profile defendants and individuals cooperating with investigations. While it is classified as general population, it features additional safety measures.
A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons stated, “For privacy, safety, and security reasons, the FBOP does not provide information about conditions of confinement, including housing assignments or internal security practices for any particular incarcerated individual.”
Bankman-Fried was convicted in November and subsequently sentenced to 25 years in federal prison in March.
