Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, was indicted on federal criminal charges and the internet is digging up and old tweet he made about another indicted celebrity.
The charges brought against Adams are still currently sealed but the mayor has been investigated previously for a number of things including how he raised money for his 2021 mayoral campaign. But the internet thinks his biggest crime might have occurred in September 2023.
That month, Adams gave Sean “Diddy” Combs a key to New York City. The mayor’s tweet from the time has been circulating online and being looked at in a different light after Diddy’s arrest last week. Diddy has denied all wrongdoings and has pleaded not guilty to all his charges.

“He might be the “bad boy” of entertainment, but Sean Combs will forever be a New York City kid who made good,” Adams wrote, “He’s given so much back to his roots, and every move he makes is proof that hustle pays off. Enjoy your key to the city, @Diddy!”

Diddy’s key to the city was later rescinded nine months after he received it after the video of Diddy assaulting Cassie in a hotel hallway was released. At the time, Adams said he was “deeply disturbed” by the video.
But even so, users on X, formally known as Twitter, have been bringing the tweet back amond Adams’ indictment. With the main federal prison in New York being the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, if Adams is arrested he and Diddy could be in the same prison.
“Eric Adams and Diddy bout to share the same jail cell, NYC going full Gotham tonight,” one X user wrote. Another added: “Adams and Diddy could be cellmates in the same federal prison. I know I’m not supposed to laugh, but come on, I find this to be hilarious actually.
Commenting on a photo of Diddy and Adams when Diddy was given the key, a third user said: “Puff & Eric Adams gotta recreate this picture with the key to their jail cell.”
The internet has been celebrating Adams’ indictment, for various reasons stemming from the fact the former police officer cut budgets to public libraries to possible corruption and bribery. One social media user described the feeling as: “New Yorkers feel the same way about Eric Adams indictment as the Irish do about the Queen’s death.”
