“We have to do a bunch of pickups,” said the actor about the filming of season eight’s final episode
Sam Heughan has given insight into when Outlander‘s final season may air.
The actor, 44, who plays 18th-century Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser in the historical drama, revealed during the Happy Sad Confused podcast’s 10th-anniversary celebration in New York City on Thursday, Oct. 17, why filming the series’ final episode has “been a rollercoaster.”
“Yes, yeah, no, we have. We finished two weeks ago,” he said when asked about the eighth and final season of the beloved Starz show, which currently does not have a release date.
“We shot our final episode – eight seasons, 101 episodes, 11 years, and I go back to work on Monday. We have to do a bunch of pickups. So, yeah, it’s, it’s been a rollercoaster. We’re still a long way off. I am just here to promote season seven, part two,” said Heughan.
When it was announced that the show, which premiered in 2014, would be ending after eight seasons, Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for STARZ, said the network was “pleased to bring Claire [Fraser] (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie’s epic love story to a proper conclusion.”
“But before we close this chapter there is plenty of their passionate story to tell over the course of 26 new episodes and even more to explore this dynamic world and its origin story,” she said.
